Title: Tangible XR: Thinking about eXtended learning spaces and reality
Abstract: The talk will present an XR application –Traversing Space in XR to Grow a Virtual Butterfly— that allows users to freely walk in the physical space while engaging with digital and tangible objects in a "learning area". We seek to enhance the immersive learning experience with this interaction method by mapping the sizeable virtual space into a smaller physical place with a seamless transition. The setup includes stations that are used symbiotically in the virtual and physical environments, with the inclusion of physical jars brought into the virtual environment to grow a virtual Monarch butterfly. Such configuration intends to define consistency throughout the experience.
The discussion will focus on the considerations for the design and development of interaction methods and technologies for XR. Ideally there will be an opportunity to discuss how space and objects combined in XR affect the user experience and development process.
